The new edition of Medicine 2.0 carnival

Hello

Im glad and proud to edit the new edition of this carnival.

These days we can observe that the Health 2.0 sector is no longer in his premature age. Another evidence for understanding the growing interesting on this sector we can see from the last month article published on Economist .
There are more and more private as well as public organizations and firms which are contribute to the development of the sector by investing efforts of time, money, and human equity ( journals, hospitals, health organizations etc.). These organizations are joining to private people- professionals as well as non pro which are contribute to the success of the Health 2.0 world. This unique world is no longer stnading by itsef (as a virtual world).More and more connections are seen between the health sector of the real world with that of the "web world".

In Found the Cache blog there is a summary about hospitals using the social media tools.

You can even read this article ( mentioned by scienceroll) to understand how the new social media tools influence on health organizations and hospitals.

Berci Mesko share with us some important and relevant tools for following news regarding the swine flu ( Here also we can see how major organizations are using web 2.0 tools ) .

The Healthinformaticsblog posted about a new new research project looking at using Social Media to track flu symptoms ( social media = Facebook).

The other side of the success ( so many items and news regarding medicine/health ant the web/Technology) is the danger of being overloaded with all of this information.

The EfficientMD.com blog mention this in one of his post and share with us some tools and suggestions how to deal with this problem.

In E-Health blog you can watch an excellent presentation - " Roadmap to web 2.0 in healthcare organizations". This presentation summarize and explain the new web 2.0 tools used by these organization ( not only organizations but also privates in the health sector) via the web for marketing/BD/educatin/knowledge sharing etc.

Interesting discussion and thoughts regarding the impact of mobile applications and SMS services in the in the health sector you can also read in Mobilehealthnews. ( Thanks to Health Management RX for referring to this post).

One example shows the new generation of Health applications via mobile phones and iPhones is the application that gives the physician as well the mother to watch her baby grow on the mobile.

If we are talking about new web tools in the service of health ( including health organizations) we should also remember and understand the place and the role of our Mobiles in this field - MHealth ( Mobile Health).

Another important presentation is about the position that Twitter is taking in our lives ( professional lives). You can read and observe some interesting facts and numbers regarding "twittering from conference - Boston Health 2.0 conference".

New England Journal of Medicine is showing us again the new role of the "new journals" in the "new web days" by creating the H1N1 Influenza center ( continuous updates about the swine flu).

Other interesting posts seen lately in our Era:

1. Wiimote Is Not Only For Gaming Anymore from Medgadget . Its about findings from a study showing that using the Nintendo Wii gyroscopic remote can be a viable option for modern radiologists.

2. Another post from Medgadget is about a new human atlas via iPhone.

3. Watch about the upcoming new visual EMR ( again, thanks to medgadget).

4. You can watch many videos from the Health 2.0 Online Care Symposium ( Thanks to Health 2.0 blog).

5. Post from the Healthcare IT Guy about ways for medical students and professionals to join the Health IT community ( for those who desire to work in this field).

Some interesting blogs worth to watch and read:

The idea is to mention not only new blogs but professional ones which share with us interesting content in specific subcategories related to Health 2.0:

1. healthGAMERS - Its about Health Games, an emerging field that uses game-based technology to improve the health of the public.

2. An old one but like a wine, getting better from day to day is the Street Anatomy blog . Its about art, design and medicine. For those who didnt find it until now, worth to following.

I hope you enjoyed reading this carnival edition.

Thanks once again to Bertalan Mesko fororganizing this carnival ( as well as creating some other excellent projects regarding Health 2.0).

Medicine 2.0 Carnival-New edition

I was thinking today that we are almost celebrating half a year for this carnival (Thanks to Bertalan Mesko , the Founder).

So many things are happaning in the world of health 2.0 . Many new ventures, many other S.U. It seems that this sector is becoming to be a mature one. One of the symptoms for that is so many posts all over the blogsphere that are dedicated to the content of medicine and web. By that fact , this blog carnival is becomung more and more important. Its more complicated but more challenging to give the right scope of "what happaned in the last two weeks in Health 2.0 world".Also we must to be more criticized and ask more questions regarding every new venture which appear to us every second morning.

I think that that we are close to a critical mass of Health 2.0 applications that offer service to professionals and or consumers by using a "traditional" components of web 2.0 ( amazing that some of the web 2.0 components already looks to us as traditional , not mention conservative). We are waiting to see and also contribute to the next generation of the health 2.0 ventures ( im sure they are on the way).

I hope you are dont dislike the fact Im using this stage for some opening sentences in the beginning. I want to offer to some of my friends and collegues to start more "friendly criticize" writing and discussion between us. I also think that C.E.O's in our field can contribute more and more to challenging dialoges.

And now to our carnival's content :

Constructive medicine 2.0 wrote a post that showing how big is the "wave" of medicine 2.0 in the web .He mentioned some example for that. Thanks Rahul for writing about my "meical 2.0 directory" while giving examples for your theme.

Dean Giustini from Open Medicine Blog wrote a post which summerize some aspects and direction who belongs to the "health 2.0 applications for the consumers".Its including the new service Zocdoc.com which gives the patients the ability to book appointments online.

My friend walter jessen from Highlight Health offered us review about the new Elseviers project for sharing knowledge with consumers, patients ands family members in the fields of biomedical and cancer research.

Its an opportunity to say : "happy birthday" to scienceroll.

Bertalan Mesko worked so hard this year and became one of the central players in the health 2.0 scene.

And as i mentioned his work through its blog I think its worth writing about is post about interesting material on other educational opportunities of Second Life.If you are reading his blog , Bertalan is offering us excellent reviews about the medical materials on this virtual world.
Another interesting post is about Facebook applications in science and medicine. Bertalan summerize for us interesting applications in the health 2.0 world on the big hype- Facebook.

David Rothman showed us some examples of the excellent Google's costum search engines for health information.

BBGM shared with us a cover of a new service started last october in Pubmed :
PubMed users will see links to a drug information resource on over two million citations. PubMed’s AbstractPlus display format includes links to “Patient Drug Information” from MedMaster™.

In Sciencebase there is an important and clever review about Yahoo pipes for scientists. What is Yahoo pipes?.Allow me to cited from the post :
"Yahoo Pipes is an interactive feed aggregator and manipulator. Pipes is a free online service that lets you remix popular feed types and create data mashups using a visual editor. You can use Pipes to run your own web projects, or publish and share your own web services without ever having to write a line of code.”

Microsoft's worldwild health director Bill Crounse, MD, wrote in his blog about the future and opportunities regarding mobile phones and medicine.Regarding my words at the beginning here is a new horizon for the health 2.0 sector.

In web 2.0 and medicine I found nice post dealing with the question : "Why is important to learn about web 2.0 and medicine?".

NEW BLOGS:

The health2blog.com is written and edited by the Co-Founders of the health 2.0 conference. Im sure its going to take central place in the nearest future.

Good luck.

Its important to mention their last post regarding web video series called The Digital Health Revoution.

Franky Dolan is the founder of medworm . She started lately writing a personal blog about the health 2.0 world. Its worth mention it for two reasons :
Im sure she has many wise things and ideas to write about them.
As an important contribuer by her medworm project/s.

SPECIAL APPLICATION REVIEW :

Maybe is the U.I maybe is the subject, or the magnificant design and graphics, I cant really put my finger on ,but it tooks my attention and I decided its worth to write about it to all of you in this carnival. I had a post about it in my blog and I already add it to Medical 2.0 directory but I recommend all of you to watch and see Visiblebody - the new platform for learning Anatomy by and through the web .

I hope you enjoyed reading this edition
Please, share with me your ideas and thoughts

Next edition is going to be in web 2.0 and medicine

Third round - medicine 2.0 blog carnival

Hello

This is the third round of the medicine 2.0 blog carnival.
I think Bertalan Mesko worth some appreciation for his dedication and motivation that led to the establishment of this blog carnival.

Posts about medical search :

Bioinformatics zen posted some alternatives for the pubmed gold standart. It was concluding natureprecedings and connotea I mentioned also in the past.
Open Medicine blog posted few days later the top five meta search tools in medicine.

Video in the service of medicine 2.0 :
It seems that some of us look carefully about the potential benefits of the emerging video tools at the medical sector.

I posted about Jove, here in medical 2.0
My.Biotechlife.net posted twice about the video scene. The first post mentioned tools like : Jove, DNAtube and Bioscreencast.
The second post was about ScienceHack - a new video search tool for science.

If we are talking about search engine , there was an important post by Bertalan Mesko in Scienceroll. It was about Next Bio- another important search engine for life science data.

Another important post from scienceroll was the evaluation of the complexity of hospital management today an in the near future. In this post we earned also some usefull links to important blogs edited by some hospital CEO'S.

Some others interesting posts :
1. Jane Sarasohn-Kahn posted at ihealthbeat.org an important review about the lack of adopting web 2.0 tools by the pharma companies and how these tools influence the industry- consumers connection.
2. I recommend watching the page of UBC- Heath library wiki. It's about medical applications for the I-phone. Probably it will be in the central at the near future.
3. K.S Descartin wrote an interesting post in her blog, called Paraskavedekatriaphobia. It's phobias and virtual reality applications as therapeutics tools. Indeed , we can add it to the "med 2.0" sector.

all about nature :
There was a buzz currently regarding the new open medicine and science method application by nature - Nuture precidings. This is an example of one post among few others.
Also I recommend about the interview with Timo Hannay - the head of web publishing , Nature publishing group. In that interview Timo Hannay asked and answer about Nature strategy and project with and inside the web 2.0 and social software world.

The last one is about my favourite : Twitter.
Here a link for short post which demonstrate a new twitter application- Twitter for health foundations and charities.

So, this is the third round of our carnival. I wish you enjoyed reading it. Ihope it will take more central place in larger audiance at the future.
Medicine 2.0 is one of the powers of the future medicine because medicine its all about people and for people which make sense that the web 2.0 tools will give such a huge benefit to that field.
